Do you want to build a snowman, or for the sake of time and place, a sandcastle? Actually, never mind... unlike Princess Anna from Frozen, this Anna is more interested in winning a race than building anything over the summer. But you guys go ahead and build a sandcastle, as long as you knock it down after of course; those things can be a threat to sea turtles and entrap hatchlings on their way to the water! Anyways, I'm rambling again. I'm an adult female loggerhead released with a satellite transmitter on July 26, 2014 after nesting south of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Florida. I measure 84.7 cm in curved carapace (shell) length and 76.0 cm in curved carapace width, and even through I have scars on my shell from an old boat strike injury, but I am so excited to be taking off from Vero Beach and migrating to my summer home in the Caribbean as part of the Tour de Turtles. It's been so nice to be out here, spending a little time away from the sargassum. I've also been working really hard to prepare for the race this year in order to raise awareness about light pollution. Light pollution is among the many problems my turtle friends and I have been dealing with for quite some time now. Bright beachfront lighting from buildings and streetlights can draw hatchlings inland and away from the ocean, which is very dangerous for them. It can also deter nesting turtles like me. This is some scary stuff so we've got to work together to find safer solutions to light. Some ways to solve these problems can be turning off unnecessary lights visible on nesting beaches or using sea turtle-friendly fixtures that shield the light from the beach! Along with these tips and keeping up with my migration, you can help root me on in the Tour de Turtle's race.

I was named by my Sponsor, Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment & Disney's Vero Beach Resort . Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim to raise awarness about the threat of Light Pollution to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
