I'm an adult female green sea turtle released with a transmitter on May 24, 2012 from a beach north of Playa del Carmen in Mexico. I was named "Vida" by my Sponsor, Vidanta Group. I was also given a traditional Mayan name, Ak´Ek´. Ak´Ek´ (translated as "Turtle Covered with Stars") is the Mayan's name for the constillation Orion, which is seen as a turtle with three stones on its back. The shell of the Turtle is a symbol of The Earth that supports the tree of the World.
I measured 113 cm in curved carapace (shell) length and I laid 85 eggs. A satellite transmitter was applied to my shell after I finished nesting. Check out my marathon migration map, where you can follow along as I swim.
I'm swimming to raise awarness about the threat of Water Quality to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
