Tour de Turtles

My name is "Maritime," though the local turtle monitors call me "Yessica." I'm an adult female leatherback sea turtle encountered nesting on June 9, 2008, in Zone 2 on Chiriquí Beach in Panama. I am 157.2 cm in curved carapace (shell) length, so I'm larger than average for a female leatherback that nests on Chiriquí Beach.

A harness with a satellite transmitter was applied to me after I finished nesting. You can watch my release video filmed using infrared lights and a night vision camera. Check out my marathon migration map where you can follow along as I swim.

I'm being sponsored by the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, CT and I'm swimming to raise awarness about the threat of Marine Debris, especially plastic bags and helium ballons to sea turtles. Please help me raise awareness about my cause by supporting me!
